Brother and Sister Split $1 Million Powerball Prize

Sibling rivalry took a backseat to some model behavior.

A brother and sister from Voluntown are celebrating a life-changing win after splitting a $1 million Powerball prize. The winning ticket was purchased using the Quick Pick option, leaving the pair stunned when they realized just how lucky they’d gotten.

The brother first spotted the winning numbers on social media and said he had to double check that he was reading the screen right. “I saw the numbers posted and started checking the ticket,” he said. “When I realized we won, I immediately called my sister.”

For the sister, the moment still hasn’t fully sunk in. “It feels surreal,” she said when asked what went through her mind upon learning they were now millionaires.

Adding to the family excitement, their father—who joined them when the ticket was claimed—is no stranger to Lottery luck. He previously won two separate $10,000 prizes, making this win a family affair in more ways than one.

The winning ticket was sold at Sunny’s Supermarket on Main St. in Voluntown for the drawing held on December 17th.

As for what’s next, the siblings already have plans in mind. The brother says he intends to pay off his house, while the sister hopes to buy a home of her own. Together, they also plan to buy new cars for their parents and take a well-earned vacation.
