Cheshire Citgo Confirms “Electrifying” $1.8 Million Classic Lotto Jackpot WinGeorge Rusin, assistant store manager for Cheshire Citgo, located at 626 Maple Avenue in Cheshire, recently had the unbelievable experience of scanning and confirming a
Classic Lotto jackpot-winning ticket for a visibly stunned winner. “To see an actual winner like that—a whole $1.8 million—I never thought I’d see that,” Rusin said.
“The moment was electrifying,” said store manager, Selma Haddad. “It’s good to see real people, really win.”
The Classic Lotto “Quick Pick” ticket for the June 26 drawing was a perfect match to the winning numbers drawn: 8 – 10 – 11 – 21 – 32 – 34. Statewide, a total of 5,434 winning Classic Lotto tickets were sold for that date, with prizes ranging from $2 to $1.8 million.
Cheshire Citgo, managed by Mercury Fuel, has been providing their special brand of quality service to their lottery customers since November 2001. “We try our best to be social with our customers and to be polite. It’s a busy store, and we see a lot of the same people,” said Haddad. “We’ve had a couple $100,000 winners in the past, but never a prize this big. This is a first!”
Classic Lotto's jackpot is payable as a 21-year annuity or a one-time cash lump-sum. Winner Donato D’Albis of Cheshire elected the cash lump-sum of $1,218,192 (before taxes) and received a prize check for $832,025 (after taxes), which will provide, according to D’Albis, a level of financial security for his family.
For selling the jackpot winning ticket, Cheshire Citgo will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.
