No Fooling—Enfield Man Wins $100,000 “Cash5” Lottery Prize on April 1Ernest Wilson, Jr. of Enfield wasn’t a victim of an April Fool’s joke on the 1st of the month—what he was, was extremely lucky! Wilson purchased a CT Lottery “
Cash5” Quick Pick ticket for 10 consecutive drawings in advance. The first draw on his ticket was a $10 prize winning match. The following night, Wilson’s ticket matched all five of the winning Cash5 numbers drawn for the game’s $100,000 top prize.
The Cash5 numbers on April 1, 2014 were 1 - 2 - 8 - 21 - 24. A total of 3,858 winning tickets were sold statewide for that drawing. Prize values ranged from $2 to $100,000 each.
“I looked up the winning numbers on the lottery’s website after the drawing and thought, ‘That can’t be right.’ My numbers were a match,” Wilson told Lottery officials. “When I called the Lottery’s winning number hotline, they still matched. That’s when (my wife) Betsy and I went back to the store where I bought the ticket and scanned it in the ticket checker. It was definitely a winner!”
Wednesday morning, the Wilsons arrived at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill, still giddy over their unexpected and fortunate windfall. The happy couple, who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, collected a prize check from lottery officials for $68,300 (prize value after taxes).
For selling Wilson his $100,000 prize winning ticket, Tony’s Little Store, located at 1436 Enfield Street in Enfield, will receive a $1,000 selling bonus from the CT Lottery.
