Bristol Retailer Sells Winning Lotto Jackpot Ticket Worth $4,000,000
Selling a winning Lotto jackpot ticket has been “a long time in the making” for Abu Bakar, owner of the Bristol Shell station located next to the Violet Food Mart in Bristol.
Over the past 10 years, Bakar has had a lot of experience at selling Lotto
tickets with 5 of 6 winning numbers for the game’s second highest prize. Such a feat occurred at his station on no less than 12 other occasions.
On July 28th, just hours before the Tuesday night Lotto drawing was to be held, Richard Bergeron of Bristol walked into the Bristol Shell station and purchased a Lotto “Quick Pick” ticket. It would later be revealed that Bergeron’s ticket contained all six winning numbers 12-14-26-31-38-41 for the Lotto game’s $4,000,000 jackpot.
“We were very excited when we learned that we sold the $4,000,000 winning jackpot ticket,” Bakar told lottery officials. “[Bergeron] was at the right place at the right time when he bought his ticket. We couldn’t be more pleased that someone local won, and we’re very, very happy for him.”
Last week, Bergeron arrived at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill and opted to claim the jackpot’s cash lump-sum prize for $3,282,744 (before taxes). Thanks to Bergeron’s lucky Lotto purchase, Bristol Shell is also a big winner—they will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery for selling the jackpot winning ticket.
“I feel like we’re the luckiest store in Bristol today,” Bakar excitedly told lottery officials. “Hopefully, we’ll sell some more big winners in the future.”
